Detailing & ceramic coatings

Correct it once. Protect it properly.

Machine polishing and premium ceramic coatings, applied in our heated studio. We've been using ceramic coatings since 2008.

Preparation. Preparation. Preparation.

The finish is decided before polishing.

Every paint protection and correction detail starts with an intensive 21-stage wash.

Shuts, fuel flaps, arches and wheel dishes are cleaned with a pH-neutral snow foam, hand wash and non-acidic citrus pre-cleaners. Every panel is treated with tar, glue and iron fallout remover, rinsed and dried with filtered warm air. From Level 1 upwards the paint is also clay-cleansed. After polishing, each panel passes a final QC check before coating.

Ceramic coatings FAQ

Coatings, explained.

Ceramic is now what almost all of our customers ask for. Here's what it will (and won't) do.

What is a ceramic coating?
A liquid silica or quartz nano-composite that bonds to the surface and forms an extremely thin, hard, hydrophobic layer. It lifts dirt and water off the paint, resists heat, UV and most chemicals (including bird droppings, bug acid and tree sap), and makes the car much easier to keep clean.
Will a coating stop stone chips or scratches?
No. A coating is far too thin to stop chips or scuffs, although its slickness does reduce wash marring. For chip protection you need paint protection film.
Do I still need to wash my car?
Yes. Regular safe washing, every one to two weeks, keeps the coating performing at its best. Pre-rinse, snow foam, rinse, hand wash with a good mitt, rinse, then dry with a blower or microfibre towel.
Why ceramic rather than wax?
Wax is organic: it lasts up to around six months in daily UK use, melts in strong sun and is easily stripped by harsh car-wash chemicals. Ceramic is far more durable and resistant. Wax can still suit a garaged classic used occasionally.
What do 'H' hardness ratings mean?
Hardness is graded on the pencil scale. Factory clear coat is roughly 3–4H. Higher-H coatings stand up to more wash cycles and resist marring better, and we have access to professional-only 10H coatings.
How long before I can drive in the rain?
Ceramic coatings need at least 10 hours to cure before facing the elements, otherwise staining or surface mapping can occur. That's one reason we don't do mobile work.
